After reading the Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus, you learned that they escaped the castle by building a set of wings using eagle feathers, wood, and wax. However, because Icarus flew too close to the sun, his wings melted and he fell to his death in the ocean.
Your job is to create an alternate ending to the myth. Write an ending which explains how they escaped from the castle. You can start your story at the part of the myth where Daedalus and Icarus had just been sentenced to life in the castle.

Daedalus and his son Icarus just got sentenced for life to be held captive in the castle. Daedalus was allowed to keep his working tools with him. After many days of thinking, Daedalus finally came up with an idea. He got out his hammer and started to chisel away at the rock. The rock was probably 100 years old and was rock solid. At the least it would probably take 2-3 weeks or maybe a month. One-day Icarus saw a butterfly flying overhead, he reached out the window and grabbed it. All of a sudden Icarus thought of an idea. He once had read in a potion book that if you mixed butterfly wings, crushed birds beaks, lady bug juice and spider legs together you could make a potion that would make you immortal for 2 hours. After several days of mixing the potion together he finally had enough for himself and Daedalus. They gulped down the potion and waited for something to happen. Soon they felt their bones start to tremble and their brains start to wiggle. They broke through the window with Daedalus' hammer. They embraced themselves in a tight hug and jumped form the window. They hit the ground 500 feet below without a single scratch or bruise. They ran for 5 days until they reached a land full of very welcoming people. The castle was named Icarian castle after Icarus.
The eagles got really close to the window so the father used one of the tools he had and caught the eagle without killing. All of a sudden a swarm of eagles came to the window. One by one the father and the son caught each one and stuck each one in the net they made. Finally they got all of the eagles and there were enough to carry both of them. They tore the net that they found and tied the rope onto the eagles. The son wasn’t looking were he was going and he ran into a mountain and fell into the dusty sand and was no were to be found.
Tired of waiting to get out of the castle, Daedalus and Icarus started to think. What would they do to get out of the castle? Then Icarus got a great idea. He saw a piece of wood and said to his father, “Let’s build a horn and blow it every day. We’ll blow it for 2 hours straight every day. We’ll make the people suffer from this loud noise. Then they’ll have to let us go and take us back to the peninsula of Greece!”
Daedalus thought that the idea may work, so they started to make the horn. It took about 1 year trying to get the sound just right. Finally, they started to blow the horn. They blew it right out the window, and made sure that everyone knew that it was them. It was a horrible noise and the people indeed suffered for two hours every day.
After 1 year of all that suffering, the King said to his guards, “Go, put Daedalus and Icarus on a ship and send them to Athens.”
So Icarus and his father were forced onto a boat and sent to Athens. While they were on the sea, a huge storm came, knocking the whole ship down. Both Icarus and Daedalus died that day.
A few days later Daedalus and Icarus were sentenced forever in a castle Daedalus thought of a wonderful and exciting plan to escape. Daedalus and Icarus found many different pebbles and put them into a wooden pot and then all of a sudden a poof of smoke went into the air and two magic flying scooters popped up! The next evening they flew off but then Icarus' scooter ran out of full and they landed in the land of Sparta. Daedalus was very scared that someone was going to catch them and kill them so he asked the almighty Zeus for another scooter or more full. Daedalus and Icarus hid for the rest of the night and the next morning there was a bran new scooter and they flew off and no one knows what happened to them since.
Bored and tired of living in the jail where when they got their meals and just set them down they were devoured by evil rats and mice. Just then Daedalus thought of an idea to escape from the prison, "I have an idea." whispered Daedalus, "listen to me. All we need is some rope or many socks that we can tie together." Icarus listened to the plan and he was in on it also, but little did he know that this soon would lead to Daedalus's death. For the next couple of days the two collected socks to tie together to throw over the wall and then climb over the edge. So the next day Daedalus and Icarus tied the socks together and by the time the guards were off duty as they thought they threw the sock chain over the edge and climbed over the edge. Well when they thought the guards were eating dinner they were right they just weren't right about where they ate dinner. Daedalus and Icarus were soon being chased after demon dogs. Daedalus should have exercised a little more or lost a few more pounds because he wasn't fast enough to out run the dogs. And that was that Daedalus was dead and Icarus was fine but stressed by the loss and I know that most stories say’ Happily Ever after' but this isn't one of those kinds of stories so that's that the end of the story. the end
Daedalus and Icarus we're getting really sick of sitting in a castle so they started to think of ways to get out. Icarus thought that the walls of the castle could be like a lollipop and they could lick their way out. So then Daedalus and Icarus got to work licking the walls. In about four months you could practically see through the walls they had licked so much. But then a magical raven came through the roof and told them that if they didn't give him all of his gold that he wouldn't let them get out for another twenty years. Daedalus and Icarus thought this bird was nuts so they just killed it. But they sure regreted that for another twenty years. Then after the twenty years passed they started licking again and they got out. When they got out the birds son came up to them and killed them for killing his father.
After waiting in the castle,Icarus and Daedalus thought out an idea. They thought a while. Then they came up with a great idea. They would need a seeds which meant a bird would have to fly over head and drop seeds. So they waited a couple of weeks still not giving up on their idea. All of a sudden they saw a big shadow over their heads. What could it be they thought so they looked up and they saw, it was a bird. They felt something dropping on them. It was not bird doo do it was seeds. They were so glad that they got right to work. They dug a hole and planted the seeds eventually it grew and grew. It finally got long enough so they climbed out. Before long they started disinegrating because there was weed spray on it. The End!
Together Icarus and Daedalus came up with a plan but they still had not figured everything out so they had a secret meeting. At that meeting they talked about which way would be the best way out. They finally agreed on an idea. That idea was to use a big sheet and let them drift down to the water below. Then they would take the wood that they would attach to the sheet and use that to stay a float and not drown. So they carried out their plan but as they got to the water they realized that they used too small of a board and they both tried to float on the board but the board couldn’t hold all their weight so the board broke and then sank to the bottom. Neither Icarus nor Daedalus could swim so they both drowned.
Daedalus and Icarus became very bored, and they thought that they would spend the rest of their lives wasting it in captivity. One day, the two looked out the window, and they were surprised to see Poseidon, the god of the sea. He said, “I have watched you from the sky, and I have seen your sadness. I will help you escape, if only you give me all of your finest possessions that you have with yourself right now.” Daedalus and Icarus agreed to give the god their things, so after they gave him everything he wanted, he wisped them out of the castle and into the sky. Then, he set them down on the shores of the sea and instructed them, “Wait for a humpback whale. He will let you climb onto his back, and you will be taken to a safe place far away from her.” Suddenly the wind blew hard, and the waves grew to be large. Poseidon was gone. That night, when the moon rose into the black sky, the whale came and rescued them. They sailed away, as the moonlight guided them on their way. Sharks swam around, but the humpback did not let Daedalus or Icarus fall into the blue water. By morning, they reached dry land. The two lived on the land for a long time and Daedalus and Icarus never forgot Poseidon’s gift.
Daedalus thought of an idea. In the back corner of the tower was a bed sheet some nails and some wood. After weeks of testing testing and building Daedalus and Icarus had constructed a decent floatation device. They had hung it from the ceiling to make sure it could hold them. Luckily it did because they were out of materials. Daedalus and Icarus waited for the right day and together they brought it to the window. Icarus got in first. Suddenly the device fell and Icarus went with it. Daedalus jumped but missed the device and fell on the earth below. Icarus fell into the water and the raft immediately started taking on water. After a few minutes the raft was under water. Icarus' foot had gotten tangles in the sheet and therefore he was pulled down with the raft. The waters in which he died are known as the Icarian Sea.
Icarus and Daedalus were sentenced for life in prison. After years, they began to come up with a plan to escape the prison. Icarus asked the prison guards if he could use some wood to build with because he was bored. The guards said yes and gave him some leftover wood from when they were building the labyrinth. He began to construct a crude, but efficient mini catapult. The guards were bewildered and wondered what craziness has taken him over. Late one night, Icarus and Daedalus aimed the catapult toward the window. The hopped in it and launched out. They flew for miles and when they landed, Daedalus landed on his head and died. Icarus became a nomad and wandered from place to place, grieving the loss of his son.
While Daedalus and Icarus were in the tower thay saw Hadies at the base of the tower. He said "I will get you out for a small favor for me." They said it was fine so he got them out of there and they asked what the favor was. Hadies said "You need to get me the crown of Zeus." They said, "HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?!" Hadies said "You have to get it when Zeus is sleeping." They said ok so they went to Mount Olympus to get the crown of zeus. When they got on top of Mount Olympus it was 12:30AM and all the gods were asleep so they snuck in to Zeus's room and took the crown and gave it to Hadies and they lived hapily ever after.
THE END
When Daedalus and Icarus were in the tower Daedalus was thinking of a way to escape the tower. The bricks that were holding the tower together were very loose and not well put together. When Daedalus saw this he made an invention that would pull the bricks away from the wall. they kept the bricks just in case the gaurds around the wall saw them. When the bricks were removed enough to walk through they walked right out. Just as they thought the gaurds were after them right away so they both took a brick and threw it. The bricks hit the gaurd right on the head and it knocked him out. Daedalus and Icarus both escaped unharmed.

Daedalus and Icarus sat in the cold and wet prison trying hard to think of a way to escape. The only thing they could see outside their walls was a window in the ceiling. The ceiling was about 15 feet high, so it was too high to climb to get to the window. Suddenly Daedalus looked at Icarus and asked him if he still had the wire ties wrapped around his waist with his belt. Icarus looked at him with a funny look on his face and told him, "yes, I do." Daedalus jumped to his feet and ran to Icarus to pull off the wires, and said, "we can make springs to put under our shoes, and then practice jumping higher and higher until we can reach the window".
Icarus laughed, but thought about it for a minute. "Yes, that might work."
Two weeks went by.
They finally were able to jump and reach the window. As Daedalus hung on to the window, Icarus jumped and grabbed Daedalus robe and hung on. Finally they were able to crawl through the window, and down the wall outside and run.
