Before Technology

Before there was television or video games, how do you think children stay entertained? What did they do with their time and what was their life like? Do you think we are better off today or that children of the past were the lucky ones?

Re-do

Wouldn't it be neat if you could go back in time and do something over? Maybe you made a huge mistake and you want to change it or maybe something bad simply happened and you wished that it hadn't. Pick a day in your life that you could re-do, wipe clean, start over and begin anew. Tell why you would choose that particular day and what would happen if you could re-live it!

Role Models

Role models are people who live their life in a certain way that makes others want to live their lives to accomplish excellent or praiseworthy things. Think of a famous person (dead or alive) who you consider to be a role model and tell why you look up to that person and what makes him/her special.

Talents

God has gifted each of us with unique talents and abilities. What are some of your talents and gifts that He has given to you? How do you use them?

Natural Highs

During Red Ribbon Week, we had the opportunity to listen to a speaker at the PAC who talked about having "natural highs" in life instead of having highs from drugs and alcohol. His example was to share the skit about hobbies where we were to pretend that the students' hobbies were kissing. We all thought it was a pretty funny skit, but in real life our "natural highs" do not usually come from laughing about kissing. What are some of your "natural highs" in life? What really makes you laugh or smile a lot?

Rhyme Time

Use this blog as an opportunity to play around with words and rhyming. Either create your own poem that has some element of rhyme in it or create at least 10 different phrases that rhyme.

There once was a toad who carried an enormous load.
When I was at the tender age of seven, I dreamed of a magical place called Heaven.
(Examples of phrases)

One day, in a vision, I saw goat
Ordinary? No, for it was in a boat.
Dangling over the side was a pole,
Winding itself into a deep hole.
My eyes were shocked to see deep down,
For under the water lived a mad clown.
Swimming amongst the clown were giant crabs,
their skin full of torturous scabs.
Crabs and a goat and a clown, could it be?
Why do such ridiculous things happen to me?
I looked up to see a fish that was leaping,
and I soon realized, I was only sleeping.
(Example of a poem)

Acrostic Poem

Create an acrostic poem using your first and last name. Each letter can correspond with one word or a word plus a few words after it. See below for an example:

Marvelously
Intrigued by the
Sayings of
Sixth grade children

Meanwhile
Intensely busy
Losing sleep while
Looking for
Extraordinary things
Revealed by God!

Challenges

What is one goal that you would like to accomplish in your life? It can be something that you could accomplish in a few days or it could be something that may take years to achieve. For example, you may say, "Someday, I would like to be a brain surgeon," or you may say, "I would like to score three goals in my soccer games this year." Describe your goal below!

Iron Man

In Chapel on Friday, Pastor Raasch showed us the video about the father and son who participated in the Iron Man triathalon together. While the father pulled, pushed and carried his disabled son along, he said that his son was really the one running the race. It was a pretty amazing story. Talk about your feelings after seeing the video clip. Did it inspire you? Were you amazed? Did it make your challenges in life seem smaller? Did it remind you that God will carry you through all of life's hardships? Share your thoughts!

Nationality

If you could be from any other country besides the United States of America, where would you be from and why?

Hot or Cold?

Would you rather be stranded in the Arctic or in a Desert? Considering the location, what one survival tool (THAT COULD FIT IN A BACKPACK)would be the most beneficial?

Superheroes

The theme of the new Middle School Youth Group study is Superhero GIG (Groups Investigating God). On that same line of thought, make up a new superhero and tell his/her name, special abilities and any other important information.

If I had a Million Dollars...

A few years ago, there was a popular song in which the group had all kinds of wacky ideas of how they would spend a million dollars. How would you spend a million dollars?

Tiny, Toony, All a little Looney!

They're tiny, they're toony, they're all a little looney!...
Gummi Bears, hopping here and there and everywhere!...
Flintstones, meet the Flintstones, they're a modern stone age family...
Broccoli, celery, gotta be...Veggie Tales....

You guessed it! These are all theme songs from cartoons! What is or was your favorite cartoon and why?

Favorite People

In "Because of Winn Dixie" Opal begins to meet a lot of new friends because of her dog. Overall, Winn Dixie is still her best friend and hero because he helps her to make new friends and he is always there for her. Talk about somebody in your life who is always there for you (maybe a relative, a neighbor, or a friend) and share why he/she is so important.

Book Talk

Since you all are pretty good readers and since you seem to enjoy books a lot, share your favorite book of all time and why you liked it so much. You may even want to give a quick review of the book in case one of your classmates wants to read it!

Friends

I know that I am grateful to God for all of the amazing friends He has blessed me with. They make me laugh and support me when I need it! What are the things that you value the most in a good friend?

Travels from Afar (or Nearby)

Travelling is one of my favorite things to do when I have free time and spare money. I have had great trips that took me far away and nearby as well. Someday, I would like to travel to every continent. So far, I have been to Asia (China), Australia, and of course North America. Share about your favorite family vacation (even if it was in Wisconsin-some of my best travels have been no further than an hour or two away!)

Calling All Football Fans!

If we were to discuss one subject that I know almost nothing about, it would definitely be football! However, since the season is beginning, I know that many of you are already making your predictions about the teams that will go all the way and the teams that are going nowhere! Share your predictions and your reasoning with the class!

Extreme Sports

As I have shared with you in the beginning of the school year, I had the opportunity to go whitewater rafting this summer. I had a blast and the adventure was fun to experience with my family. If you could pick one crazy or extreme activity to do, what would it be and why?

Hurricane Katrina

What do you think we can do to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina? Why do you think such horrible things as hurricanes happen?
